Let’s get to know Jelte! He’s an intern within the Inspection & Corrosion department (ICD) at TEPNL, The Hague in The Netherlands.

“I had a first internship interview with a recruiter who then introduced me to the Inspection Methods Engineer for the second interview. A week later I got a call that I could start the first of June!

Being part of Total has been a great experience. It’s a company that takes care of and invests in its employees. For instance – courses, training, the TotalFit program and multiple social events like Teambuilding activities. My internship has provided me with a real chance to get a clear view of a specialized department in the petrochemical industry and gave me an opportunity to start building my network.

Currently I am working on relocating digital inspection reports, to ensure an easy accessible history of inspection reports on pressured equipment and piping, necessary for designated inspection authorities, who assess TEPNL to demonstrate to the Dutch State Supervision of the Mines that Total’s operations are safe. I have also completed one of the core tasks of my team’s project – preparing and co-execute a Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI) campaign at offshore assets of Total. Besides that, along with my team, we are working on improving the workflows of several operations within the department.

What skills or characteristics are most important for Total interns? I would say determination and a personal interest in techniques used in the field. Otherwise you cannot truly understand the situation, which can lead to miscommunication and even unsafe situations. And of course, an intern should do his/her best on the job and volunteer on the side to help their colleagues out.”
