IFP Field Challenge at Total Exploration & Production Research Center in Pau
The European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) Field Challenge is one of the star events in the geoscience student community calendar. This year, the annual EAGE Challenge took place in Paris, and Total was the sponsor of this student program. Not only did Total provide the dataset for the competition, we also offered the award-winning team a trip to our Pau research facility in Pau!
With up to 50 teams on the starting line, this year’s competition was fierce; only the 10 best teams were selected to work on the field dataset. Teams had four months to work on the material before presenting their Field Development Plan in front of experts from the energy industry and the academic world.
The IFP School student winners of the EAGE 2017 Field Challenge were welcomed to Total’s Exploration & Production facility in Pau. As our VIP guests for the day, the students had the chance to discover our technology facilities and learn about Total Research initiatives. The winners toured the technology facilities and met Corporate Chiefs in Geosciences (Geology, Geophysics, and Reservoir). Taking their experience into the field, the group learnt about the geology of the Pyrenees, during to a trip organized by Total with challenge co-sponsors GeolVal. A successful and eye-opening trip for the students, and an opportunity for both Total and future energy talent to get to know each other.
